Kangxi Shell Dish 1


Chinese export porcelain Imari pattern molded dish, c. 1700 – 1720.

The shell-shaped body is edged in gold with a narrow diaper band and is decorated in Imari floral designs in underglaze blue with overglaze iron red and gilt highlights.The reverse bears a label from the Benjamin F. Edwards collection. Edwards was a well known collector of Chinese Imari porcelain.

This piece was part of Lot 492 in Christie’s New York June 2, 2005, sale (Sale #1528).
