Description

A large heavy wood carving with much detail and old painted lacquer finish. I love the flower painting on the dignitary’s apron.
A block of wood has been carved in a design of a Chinese dignitary carrying tribute. The wood has been covered with red, black lacquer with gold accents. There is a rectangular cut out in the middle of the back. His attire is also very Ming. He also sports a Ming headdress.
The base shows the growth rings of the wood
MEASUREMENTS
18 ¾” (47.6 cm) tall x 7” (17.8 cm) wide x 4 ¼” (10.8 cm) deep. Weighs 5 lbs 5.9 oz (2435 g)
CONDITION
There are losses and discoloration to the lacquers, worm holes (mostly in the base), and cracks and chips to the wood (again, mostly on the base). There are no deep cracks that would affect the structural stability of the statue.
A large and very aged Chinese wood carving of substance.
