A large Japanese Imari porcelain charger, beautifully painted in underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze salmon hues, red and gilt. The scene depicts two bijin cutting wrapping paper and wrapping gifts in boxes, while a third looks on. On the front two beautiful curtains are decorated with phoenix in golden volutes. In the background a landscape scene shows a village with blossoming trees and far mountains .The wide rim is finely painted with rich gilded decoration of chrysanthemum and lotus scrolls on a dark blue ground.
Marked on the back with a pomegranate branch in red and gold.
